I recently started jumping rope as a form of cardiovascular to incorporate into my weekly trainings.Let me tell you, it’s without a doubt a lot easier that it looks.

One person in particular makes it look like it’s a piece of cake.

Adrienn Banhegyi, holds 2 world records, and she has also won the World and European Jump Rope Championships several times.

Watching Adrienn is mesmerizing. She makes jumping rope look so effortless. She is a true champion, athlete, and performer. She now works with one of the greatest performing circuses on the planet, Cirque de Soleil.

You can imagine how enthusiastic and honored I was when she agreed to do an interview.

One of the things that really impressed me most was how multifaceted Adrienn is, as a world record holding performer, champion, circus entertainer, and physical education teacher, there really seems there is no limit to what she can do, only the limitations of her own creativity.

She truly does, “Act as if it was impossible to fail.”

Here is my interview with Adrienn Banhegyi.

Thank you Adrienn, for your time and for the opportunity to interview you, to begin…..

Awesome thank you very much for the wonderful opportunity here are the questions: Could you tell us how you first got into jump rope some 15 years ago?

I started jump rope more than 20 years ago, after my dad saw a movie with girls doing Double Dutch in it. Being a Physical Education teacher, he thought it would be a great exercise for his students, to improve their physical condition as well as their coordination and concentration. Me and my sister, joined the group and fell in love with the sport. – I really enjoyed doing competitive jump rope, after winning several World and European Championships, and setting 2 world records, I was ready to turn towards performing arts and learn more about the challenges of an artist.

You have set 2 world records, won numerous championships, and now work what many would consider for the coolest place in the world, Cirque de Soleil, what’s the most important lesson you have learned competing and performing at such a high level?

I think the most important lesson I have learned in the last 15 years, both at competitions and with performances is that you need to stay relaxed and remember that the number one reason why you started it and still keep doing it, is because you like it – no matter what.

You are an inspiration to people all around the world, if you had to choose one person who had the biggest impact over the course of your career and that inspired you, who would that be?

It would be my sister, who is also performing a jump rope act with Cirque du Soleil. We started jump rope together, and we kept challenging each other during our competitive years. For me, to see her succeed, after a serious injury, by making her way to Cirque right after the audition, and later, watching her perform for the first time 10 years ago on the stage of Quidam (Cirque du Soleil) was the biggest inspiration.

Probably the greatest thing is that you seem to be having so much fun doing what you do, performing, what advice or suggestions would you have for others wanting to follow their dreams?

I believe that the energy you invest in and the determination you are heading towards your goal with, will surely manifest. Some of us, need longer time, others shorter, but it is possible to get there!

In one sentence or phrase how would you define success?

Success for me, is rather a feeling of happiness, that I managed to achieve the goals I set, I could inspire people for a happier and healthier life with a positive and joyful attitude.

What was the best decision or difficult decision you have made?

I had quite a few decisions to make in my life, just as much as everyone else, I guess… Most of the time, I make my decisions based on my instincts. I don’t really categorize whether it is difficult or not, I normally decide for the “goal”.

What is your proudest moment or accomplishment of your career who would that be?

I would say it makes me happy and proud to see that people grab jump ropes after seeing some of my videos.

Looking over your career is there anything you would have done differently or that you regret?

At the moment, I am happy with what I have done in my life so far, I don’t think that everything was perfect all the time, but some of the less successful things were also necessary to get to the next point in my life.

What does the future hold for Adrienn Banhegyi? How will you continue to improve and expand?

For the future, the next 2-3 years, I would like to do some more performances, at the meantime, we are working on a jump rope program for fitness and sport professionals which could be a longer term project. I also enjoy doing choreographies for other artists, and help them get into the show business.

What question should I have asked you that I didn’t ask? Why is that question important and what is the answer?

What you didn’t ask… hm… maybe a recommendation for jump rope workouts: Try to learn a few basic jump rope tricks and add them to your training routine, you will get a better and more enjoyable workout! And feel free to experiment, it boosts creativity as well!

Thanks Adrienn!
