When I first embarked on my journey into calisthenics, I really didn’t know where to turn. It wasn’t until I found the, Tony Robbins of Calisthenics, Brendan Meyers. Brendan is a guy that is super positive and is a fantastic role model and representative for the world of calisthenics.
Brendan comes from a physical education background having received his degree in just that, physical education, so he combines both practical theory with real world experience.
What I most appreciate about Brendan is that he is going for it and helping people along the way. His videos are pure and authentic. His approach to health and nutrition is sensible and easy to follow, and most of all his attitude and enthusiasm for life is just down right contagious.
He clearly is a natural born teacher and we are all extremely lucky and privileged to have someone such as Brendan to help us along our own health and fitness journey.
It’s pretty clear from the get go that one of Brendan’s passions is being of service.
As an author, teacher, athlete and business man, there is really no limits to what he can do.
I was super thrilled when Brendan agreed to do this interview, and equally excited to learn more about him and his own unique philosophy both personally and professionally.
Here is our interview with Mr. Brendan Meyers….
Thank you for joining us Brendan, to begin….
Could you tell us a little bit about how you got into Calisthenics?
I always wondered what bodyweight training was all about. Playing college football, my best friend and I stumbled upon the barstarzz channel. I didn’t think anything of it, except that they were incredibly strong. My friend and I were messing around one day saying “let’s call ourselves boynton beach Barstarzz”, we took a photo of me pretending to hold a front lever, and then went on with our lives. I had no clue 2 years later that I would have to quit football and started to engage in this type of exercise. That being said, the day I quit football was the day I made the decision to start doing something different – calisthenics!
You have inspired millions of people all around the world, who has inspired you in your life?
Those who have constantly shown me support, my family (fans), and parents.
If you could thank three people in your life who would they be and what would you say to each of them?
Coach Sims – Thank you for helping me realize football wasn’t everything. Thank you for instilling that extra motivation in me to be as great as I wanted to be.
Mom and Dad – Thank you for supporting me, for believing in every step I took. You have, and always will be, the ones who made me who I am today!
TJ Jackson – Thank you for being my trainer for those few years… but more importantly – thank you for believing in my athletic ability at such a young age.
What’s the most important lesson you have learned in life either personally or professionally?
Believe in others around you, but always be cautious. The greatest mistake society makes is NOT trusting others.
In one sentence or phrase how would you define success?
Success is a lifelong pursuit of happiness.
What was the best decision you have made?
The best decision in my life would have to be when I moved to California. It was a big step in my career, but I felt like living in Florida was holding me back. I needed change, I needed to experience something new!
What was the most challenging or difficult decision you had to make?
One of the most challenging decisions I have had to make is leaving my family and pursuing my dream here in California. I am a family man and am extremely close to my parents.
As an inspirational and motivational fitness star, what pearls of wisdom or words of advice would you have for those chasing their dreams?
My advice to those who are chasing their dreams is simple. Be consistent and NEVER lose focus. The second you begin to concentrate on other things around you, is the day your journey towards that one goal will plateau.
Looking over your accomplishments thus far, is there anything you would have done differently or that you possibly regret?
Look at my accomplishments up until, I can honestly say I do not regret anything. The decision I have made through out my lifetime has defined the person I am today.
What question should I have asked you that I didn’t ask? Why is that question important and what is the answer?
How did you become so hungry for success? It is important because it is the answer to my life story.
– I woke up one day sick and tired of my current situation. No one believed in me, my friends were doing great in their sport, I felt alone, I had pimples all over my face, I was so skinny, and I was just tired of looking at myself in the mirror. One day I wrote down 3 words onto a notecard and placed it in the corner of my bedroom wall. It read – Dedication, Hard Work, and Sacrifice. I still live by those three words to this day and will forever live by them until the day I die.
